Agents Cannot Sell Loans To Consumers, Do KYC On Behalf Of Banks; RBI Is Worried About Privacy

Agents Cannot Sell Loans, Do KYC On Behalf Of Banks

RBI has announced that DSAs, direct selling agents, from banks will no longer be sent for selling loans and completing KYC procedures. This will also include physical verification of borrowers’ documents.

The apex bank also said that banks will have to change their way of chasing loan-seekers that the banks are practising right now.

What is the intention of RBI behind this announcement? Find out right here!

RBI Bans Use Of Agents For KYC And Chasing Retail Loans

The Reserve Bank of India has announced that banks will not be allowed to employ DSAs, direct selling agents for selling retail loans and to verify documents of borrowers. Now, banks will have to change the way they chase retail loans too.

This decision has been made with the intention to get the incidents of data theft to reduce, and the operational risks.

As of now, a lot of retail assets like personal loans, credit cards and consumer credit are being taken care of by the DSAs. RBI announced this while addressing the queries of the banking industry.

As per sources, “RBI believes that agents should play a limited role. And KYC procedures, involving verifying borrowers’ original documents should be performed by bank officials and cannot be outsourced. The regulator may have come across instances of misuse.”

The compliance head of a major bank revealed that this ever since new norms regarding anti-money laundering have been put in place, there has been a ‘lurking fear’. However, RBI has now followed the new rules and put it down unambiguously.

Agents To Be Given Biometric Readers For Verification; Not Possible Overnight

Now, agents hired by banks, business correspondents or facilitators will be able to carry out eKYC of borrowers. They may also carry a biometric reader to the place of residence of the customers to verify.

However, bankers are of the opinion that the number of DSAs is not less than lakhs, and to provide them with readers and connectivity is not something that can be done overnight.

Also, lenders believe that this might lessen the growth in consumer loans and credit cards too. The banks are together making plans to approach the apex bank, RBI and the Government as well.

We’ll keep you informed as we get more updates!

UPI Will Go Global: Pay Via UPI While Visiting Other Countries; Send Money To India Using UPI!

UPI Goes Global: Pay Via UPI While Visiting Other Countries; Send Money To India Using UPI!
UPI Goes Global: Pay Via UPI While Visiting Other Countries; Send Money To India Using UPI!

Govt. of India and NPCI or National Payments Corporation of India has some robust, and solid plans for UPI.

Very soon, Indians visiting abroad can pay for products and services using UPI, and Indian living outside India can send money back to India, using UPI.

This way, very soon, UPI will become a globally accepted payment platform.

How will this happen?

UPI Aims For Global Usage

When Indians visit other countries, then they can seamlessly use their debit/credit cards for making payments, for example restaurants or movies or shopping malls.

There are, no doubt, currency conversion charges, and fees, but the payment is carried through without any hassles.

Very soon, the same payments and transactions in foreign locations can be done via UPI as well.

Pilot project for UPI enabled global payments is being carrier out in UAE and Singapore, where a lot of Indians visit for tourism purpose.

UAE and Singapore, both have started accepting RuPay as a valid payment tool, and now, Govt. wants to make UPI a global force to be reckoned with.

An unnamed senior banker said, “These two countries (UAE, Singapore) already have opened up to RuPay cards; now the target is to enable UPI payments. This will be a big boost for Indians traveling in those countries and, just like their debit card or credit card, they can pay via UPI,”

NRIs Can Send Money Back To India Using UPI

Not only for tourism sector, but NPCI is also aiming to capture the massive remittance market for NRIs.

As per the details available, NPCI and Govt. is trying to make UPI as a platform which can be used by NRIs to send money back to India.

India is right now world’s #1 country in remittance: Last year, NRIs sent back $69 billion back to India, which is the highest in the world.

In case UPI is able to tap into the booming remittance market, then it can be a gamechanger. Traditional platforms like Wester Union and Visa/Master can incur huge losses, if an Indian staying abroad can send money back to India using UPI.

However, onboarding merchants and traders for UPI platform is the biggest concern.

Another unnamed banker said, “Many global companies like Facebook, Google and Xiaomi have started entering the UPI payments space, which can boost the use case of UPI payments in other geographies,”

It seems UPI is going global and the process has already started!

US Agencies Investigate Infosys Over ‘Cheating’ Allegations; SEBI, BSE Question Infosys’ Intentions

US Agencies Investigate Infosys Over 'Cheating' Allegations

US Agencies Investigate Infosys Over ‘Cheating’ Allegations

Recently, Infosys, a leading IT company of India had its name dragged through the mud when a particular group of ‘ethical employees’ accused the company and its CEO of some serious frauds.

No sooner did this come to limelight, and an investigation was initiated in the company by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

In response to this investigation, the company clarified its stand on the issue, stating that an investigation is being conducted over the ‘generalised allegations.’

Find out all the details right here!

Infosys Accused of Cheating; US SEC Launches Investigation

A complaint by whistleblower was sent to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, that disclosed several frauds going on at the company on a high level.

There were shocking complaints made against Infosys – The company’s high level officials were accused of sharing only the good and incomplete data with the Board members, and the CEO of the company was accused of being racist, and calling Board members some utterly disrespectful names.

This also resulted in the shares of the company diminishing by a whopping 16%, and investors even lost Rs 44,000 crores in the company.

The US SEC has initiated an investigation in the matter, and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has also asked for information regarding the complaints.

Infosys said, “The company will cooperate with the SEC’s investigation. Also, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has requested additional information from the company concerning the anonymous complaints. The company will provide the information as per Sebi’s request.”

Infosys Issues Statement Responding To The Allegations

Soon after SEBI and SEC asked Infosys the reason behind Infosys’ failure of informing them about the complaints of whistleblowers. Infosys issued a statement promptly that said that the company’s audit committee has been reviewing the complaints.

Infosys also said that before the investigation of the ‘generalised allegations’ came to a conclusion, there was no need for disclosure.  Apparently, the company’s audit team has retained a law firm, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co to initiate an independent investigation.

The company said, “As disclosed in the company’s stock exchange filings made on October 22, 2019, the anonymous whistleblower complaints have been placed before the audit committee who has retained the law firm of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co to conduct an independent investigation.”

We’ll keep you informed as we get more updates!

Now American Hotels Are Opposing Oyo Rooms Over Unnecessary ‘Fees’ & Charges

Now American Hotels Are Opposing Oyo Rooms Over Unnecessary 'Fees' & Charges
Now American Hotels Are Opposing Oyo Rooms Over Unnecessary ‘Fees’ & Charges

As per the reports, many hotel owners in the US have raised complaints to a travel intelligence platform Skift that the Oyo-mandated property management system doesn’t work often or it has also implemented poor functionality.

The complaint is raised against Oyo amidst the company is looking to expand aggressively in the US markets.

According to Skift, the problems with the application totter down the ability of properties to set room rates or change and handle reservations, resulting in overbookings and poor customer service.

How Reducing Rates Influx Of Drug Users And Prostitutes?

The hotels had given all control of revenue management powers to Oyo. This is causing distress to US hotel operators as the company has reduced room rates drastically.

In turn, the rate is reduced in “such an extent that they sometimes triggered an influx of drug users and prostitutes” said Skift report.

What Is Other The Area Of Concern?

The other problems raised by Skift report concerning the evident missed payments from Oyo, a lack of cash flow for property owners, and unresponsiveness in dealing with technical or customer service issues were likewise high on the complaint list.

Is There A Similarity?

The notable point here is that all these troubles are quite similar to Oyo’s fracas with hotel owners in India.

The hotel owners in India also informed Reuters that to their dismay they found that the room rates have gone down, that too at a time when they are facing a slow economy.

They also informed that Oyo charges them around 20 percent franchise fee on room revenues when they join Oyo’s network.

But some Indian hotel operators reported that they often end up giving more than half of their revenues through fees that were hidden earlier.

Some More Incidents

According to reports, last month, a group representing hotel operators in Bengaluru called for a criminal probe into Oyo.

They said that the company was withholding their money claiming that there was an unfair increase in fees.

Another incident where two hoteliers in the southern state of Karnataka filed separate police complaints last month claiming Oyo had fallaciously increased their commissions and accused the company of fraud.

What Does Softbank Say?

According to Reuters reports, the unfavorable circumstances for Oyo in India has limited Oyo to a small share of over 10,000 hotel owners.

Apart from this the other troubles rising in the US comes at a crucial time for the company valued around $10 billion when they hoping for profitability and along with its major investor, Japan’s Softbank.

Recently, Softbank has invested around $1 billion in Oyo, through its Vision Fund.

According to a Reuters report, the company is struggling to raise funding for a second investment fund due to the failed offering of office-rental company WeWork and also struggling with the profitability with their flagship investments like Uber and has not yet turned a profit.

While Oyo had told Reuters that they are in constant contact with its hotel partners.

Oyo said in a statement “We have always disclosed any changes applicable to contracts with asset owners,”.

Why Are Hoteliers Upset With Oyo?

While Hoteliers said that Oyo has introduced fees like – a “platform fee” and a fee for a “visibility boost” – which they find out from their monthly statements.

Reuters has interviews with 22 hotel owners and managers who run hotels under the Oyo brand in 10 Indian cities informed that the discontent has grown at the end of last year.

When several hotel groups have organized protests against them.

According to Amitabh Mohapatra, head of one such group in northern India, more than  300 hotels have quit Oyo’s India network this year.

Another case where Kunal Rajpara, who heads another group in western India, said a few dozen hoteliers from Ahmedabad left Oyo last month.

According to P.C. Rao, president of the Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association “The situation with Oyo has gone from bad to worse. We want to make sure the business of small hoteliers isn’t hurt.”

What Does Oyo Say About This Situation?

Oyo spokesperson also acknowledged some of the issues raised by the owners.

He said, “We have taken cognizance of the feedback and are addressing asset owner concerns and issues on a war footing,”. (reference)

The Oyo company has suddenly become one of the world’s largest hotel chains with a simple promise of “hassle-free” online booking, transparent pricing and cheerful lodging.

It seems that the promise is in serious danger witnessing the recent events.

Mi A3 Pro To Come With 108MP Camera? Mi CC9 Pro Specs Leaked, Pricing Details Out (Gadgets360)

The last Mi CC9 smartphone came to India as Mi A3, and hence the new Mi CC9 Pro may launch in India as Mi A3 Pro.

Mi CC9 Pro will come with the much-hyped 108MP camera, gaming-centric flagship-level Snapdragon 730G processor, 4,000 mAh battery, Android 10 out of the box, 20W fast charging and more.

Mi CC9 Pro Specs & Features: To Come In India As Mi A3 Pro?

If Mi CC9 Pro launches in India as Mi A3 Pro, the Mi A smartphone will have the same features as Mi CC9 Pro. So, mostly all the Mi A3 Pro features should match with CC9 Pro. Coming to what Mi CC9 Pro will offer, the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone will come with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display.

So as an upgrade over the Mi CC9, Mi A3 Pro will come with a Full HD+ AMOLED display this time. As Mi CC9 Pro, Mi A3 Pro will come with a 6.4-inch AMOLED water drop notch panel along with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The biggest feature on the Mi CC9 Pro is the triple camera system. The device will have the 108MP primary camera. It’s the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature the 108 camera sensor.

That means Mi A3 Pro will feature the same 108MP camera sensor in a multi camera system.

The 108 camera sensor was recently unveiled by Samsung, and then Xiaomi confirmed to be using it. The Chinese company is working on multiple 108MP camera smartphones, and Mi CC9 Pro with is going to be the first one.

Mi A3 Pro will come with a three camera system. The primary 108MP camera sensor will pair with a 13MP wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens.

So, Mi A3 Pro will have the same triple camera system as Mi CC9 Pro featuring a 108MP camera sensor, a 13MP wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens.

Being an Android One smartphone, the device will come with pure Android. Mi A3 Pro will run Android 10 out of the box as OnePlus 7T, Pixel 4 and other new flagships. You can experience seamless Pixel-like Android experience with Mi A3 Pro running on Android 10.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Pro: Mi CC9 Pro To Launch In India As Mi A3 Pro?

Xiaomi launched a remodelled Mi CC9 in the country as Mi A3, and now Mi CC9 Pro has been leaked, and it could be Mi A3 Pro for India and some other European countries. Generally the Mi A series smartphones have always been remodelled already launched Mi devices from China.

Hence the upcoming Mi CC9 Pro will probably launch in India as Mi A3 Pro.

Both critics and mass complained of Mi A3 being a downgrade, and hence deemed it as lesser value for money product. But Mi A3 is still doing well in the market, and Xiaomi may upgrade it with a Pro model.

So, Xiaomi could be fixing that up with Mi A3 Pro and some top of the line specs. Mi CC9 Pro seems like a perfect smartphone to be remodelled as Mi A3 Pro with pure Android goodness and a perfect mid-ranger in the sub-20,000 segment in India.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Pro In India: Has Xiaomi Confirmed Mi A3 Pro?

Xiaomi is yet to confirm whether a Mi A3 Pro will come to India or not. But as the first Mi CC9 smartphone came to India as Mi A3, the chances of Mi A3 Pro are pretty high. While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed anything from their side, there are two reasons to believe that.

Mi CC9 Pro has been confirmed, and it’s launching next month in China.

Xiaomi also recently slashed the current price of Mi CC9, so Mi CC9 Pro will be available at a competitive pricing.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Pro may soon come to India as a remodelled CC9 Pro. Xiaomi is also focusing more on the Mi series to re-brand some product lines, so chances are high that Mi CC9 Pro may come to India as Mi A3 Pro.

Mi A3 Pro In India: Mi A3 Pro India Launch, Mi A3 Pro Launch In India

Mi CC9 Pro is launching in China on November 5. The remodelled Mi A3 Pro India launch maybe from two months now. Mi A3 Pro should be available in Xiaomi’s home market in a few weeks, and hence Xiaomi Mi A3 Pro India launch will happen after that.

A popular tipster leaked all the specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi device, and it throws in more light about the upcoming smartphone.

Mi A3 Pro India launch may happen in November or late 2019. Xiaomi India generally takes some time to bring a device to India, and Mi A3 Pro launch in India will take another few weeks. It’s safe to assume that Mi A3 Pro India launch will happen in the late 2019 or early 2020 timeline.

Mi A3 Pro India Pricing: Mi A3 Pro India Price, Mi A3 Pro Price In India

50 Lakh Central Govt. Employees’ Salaries Can Be Increased As A Diwali Gift From Modi Govt.

50 Lakh Central Govt. Employees' Salaries Can Be Increased As A Diwali Gift From Modi Govt.
50 Lakh Central Govt. Employees’ Salaries Can Be Increased As A Diwali Gift From Modi Govt.

So we have second news on the 7th Pay Commission, right in one week. That is something. Last week we had brought out to you that the Union Government had accepted the MAC Progression schemes as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission for central govt employees, which shall largely benefit them.

In today’s news, as a post-Diwali gift to its employees, the NDA government is likely to raise the salaries of its employees soon.

Govt. To Raise the Salaries of Employees

What comes best before and nest after a festive season? Bonus. Comprehending further, wouldn’t it be amazing if you get a present from the authority wherein your salary itself is elevated? Well, sounds great deal to me.

In another one of its 7th Pay Commission notice, the govt is seriously considering to raise the salaries of its employees soon, which would gigantically benefit nearly 50 lakh central government employees. Even though the government hasn’t made any formal announcement regarding this, a final decision is expected to be taken in November.

Govt Has Risen DA for Employees

Employee satisfaction is 100% important for any organisation to function thoroughly. The government has realised it well. It has recently raised the Dearness Allowance (DA) of central government employees from 12% to 17%, effective from July.

The government employees have for long been demanding the government to increase their minimum salary and fitment factor. According to them, the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) salary was not inflation-adjusted and the price rise rendered the benefits received from the pay hike useless.

The announcement benefited around 50 lakh employees and 65 lakh pensioners. This was the highest DA raise by the government in recent years, according to Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The thing is, Dearness Allowance is a cost of living adjustment allowance, which is adjusted as per the inflation, in order to compensate for price rise. This is calculated as a fixed percentage of a person’s basic salary or pension. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are reportedly the only countries where government employees are given such an allowance.

UPI Breaches 1 Billion Transactions, 100 Million+ Users in October; Will Become Global Platform!

UPI Breaches 1 Billion Transactions, 100 Million+ Users in October; Will Become Global Platform!
UPI Breaches 1 Billion Transactions, 100 Million+ Users in October; Will Become Global Platform!

In the present times, the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) ecosystem is expanding, especially due to its ease in interfacing for customers. In fact, to improve its reach and performance further, the Government of India, will be launching an updated version of its mobile payment app BHIM, naming it BHIM 2.0, the flagship of which is UPI.

What has recently been spilled out to you is that the Govt. of India and the National Payments Corporation of India, NCPI will soon be accessing UPI as a globally accepted payment platform.

In extension to this, India’s very own UPI has achieved the double milestone of one billion transactions as well as has crossed 100 million users in October.

UPI Crosses 100 Million

This is an exciting piece, especially for the Indians living abroad and the ones who travel overseas a lot. Like we said, UPI has crossed a mega number of over 100 million users in October, making it the fastest adoption of any payments system anywhere else in the world.

The parent body, NCPI launched this domestic payments platform three years ago and operates it as well aims to take the fund transfer system to other countries such as Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

UPI  has over 141 banks on board right now, emerging as a major payments alternative to debit, credit and e-wallets. In September itself, the UPI-based recorded 955.02 million transactions worth over Rs 1.61 lakh crore as compared 918.35 million transactions a month ago.

On a year-on-year basis, UPI transactions have increased 2.3 times or 135%.

The Advantages of Crossing Boundaries and More

Very soon, Indians visiting abroad can pay for products and services using UPI, and Indian living outside India can send money back to India, using UPI. When Indians visit other countries, then they can seamlessly use their debit/credit cards for making payments.

There are however, fees related to conversion charges and others that these people have to levy. Very soon, the same payments and transactions in foreign locations can be done via UPI as well. Pilot projects for UPI enabled global payments is being carried out in UAE and Singapore, where a lot of Indians visit for tourism purpose.

NPCI is also aiming to capture the massive remittance market for NRIs. Last year, NRIs sent back $69 billion back to India, which is the highest in the world. Once UPI is able to tap into the booming remittance market, sending money from overseas to India digitally would be just a tap away.
