This Android Malware Is Hacking WhatsApp & Stealing Your Private Pics, Chats, Videos

The cyber theft and fraud does not cease as new malwares get discovered each day!

A new malware called ‘WolfRAT’ is targeting messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Line on Thai Android devices.

Read to find out more…

How Does the Malware Attack Your WhatsApp, Messenger, Line?

With easy access to the internet, almost every person on this planet uses messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook messenger among others.

The users of these apps are being misled into installing a Trojan on their Android phones that spies on them by collecting photos, videos, messages, and recording audio.

It targets users of Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, and Line in the guise of a Google Play or Flash update and gets them to install the trojan on their phones after which it not only collects different types of data but also sends them to the trojan command and control (C2) servers.

Campaigns targeting Thai users and their devices were identified with some of the C2 servers located in Thailand. The C2 server domain names contained Thai food names and  panels contained Thai JavaScript comments. The interesting domain names are used to entice users to click/visit the C2 panels without much disruption.

What is Known of the ‘WolfRAT’?

Cisco Talos, an intelligence team named this Trojan ‘WolfRAT’. According to their research, it is based on a leak of the previously leaked DenDroid malware family. DenDroid’s source code was leaked in 2015 and since then, other malware like WolfRAT have come out to attack unsuspecting users.

Talos said in a blog post it highly believes that this modified version of the malware is operated by an outfit known as ‘Wolf Research’, appears to be closed but rebranded as ‘LokD’, posing an active threat.

In March, PC Risk reported that LokD belongs to the ransomware family called Djvu, which encrypts victim’s files, renames them and creates a ransom note. LokD renames encrypted files by appending the ‘.lokd’ extension to their filenames.

During the VirusBulletin conference in 2018, CSIS researchers BsenoĆ®t Ancel and Aleksejs Kuprins did a presentation on Wolf Research and its offensive arsenal, Talos noted. Ancel and Kuprins mentioned an Android, iOS and Windows remote-access tool (RAT).

The researchers claim the WolfRAT is very likely being run by Wolf Research, an organisation that used to create interception and espionage-based malware. While the organisation may not be formally active, its members are likely to be functioning.

Wolf is headquartered in Germany with offices in Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, India and (possibly) the U.S. Wolf closed after the CSIS presentation but reemerged based in Cyprus as the aforementioned LokD.

Talos reported the malware is most likely used as an intelligence-gathering tool for actors that can be packaged and sold, based on its tracking of Wolf Research’s past activities. Talos called the actor’s operations were carried out in a ‘lazy manner’. There was a lot of copy/paste from public sources, dead code, unstable code, and open panels etc..

However, it was also added by them that the ability to gather data from phones is a big win for the operator because people send a lot of sensitive information via messages and are mostly unafraid about their privacy and security. Hence the messaging apps being on their radar.

Maharashtra, TN, Bengal Will Not Allow Flights To Start; Airlines Will Have To Change Routes

Maharashtra, TN, Bengal May Not Allow Flights To Start; Airlines Will Have To Change Routes
Maharashtra, TN, Bengal May Not Allow Flights To Start; Airlines Will Have To Change Routes

A very strange battle of protocols is brewing up between the Centre and the States, over the issue of resuming flights from tomorrow (May 25).

It seems that three of the biggest airports: Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata may not allow flights to be resumed, and this means that airlines will have to change routes.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bengal May Not Allow Flights

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Governments have made it clear that they may not allow flights to resume from May 25th, Monday.

Centre has already announced that flights will resume from May 25th.

Infact, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh tweeted that this move by Centre to resume flights is extremely ill-advised, and that by resuming flights, infections can increase.

If Maharashtra doesn’t allow flights, then Mumbai airport will not be allowed to operate.

Tamil Nadu too has requested Centre to delay flights till May 31st.

Meanwhile West Bengal, which is already devastated by supercyclone Amphan, has expressed their inability to resume flights amidst this chaos.

What Happens If States Don’t Allow Flights?

In case Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bengal doesn’t allow flights to resume, then airlines will have to change routes, cancel a lot of tickets, and incur losses.

The decision to resume flights lies with Centre and Ministry of Civil Aviation.

However, the authority to resume airport operations lies with the States.

Hence, even if the flights are resumed, there can be scenario wherein the passengers won’t be allowed to exit the airport, or enter the airport, even if the flight is waiting at the terminal.

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is quite optimist on restarting the flights, as he had said earlier, “This will keep going on. When we are dealing with a situation like this, we should expect that there would be some hesitation. But it is our (centre’s) responsibility and we should make efforts to make those concerns,”

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.

Jio Increases Tariff By 31%: Now Pay Minimum Rs 129/Month To Keep Your Number Active; Rs 98 Pack Removed

Reliance Jio had prepaid plan of Rs 98, which was introduced last year in November and was marked as the most affordable and lowest prepaid recharge offered by the telecom giant, to the customers in India.

Unfortunately, the company has now discontinued the aforementioned service. The prepaid plan has not just been removed from the official website the My Jio app but also from third-party recharge platforms.

Rs 98 Recharge Plan Discontinued

Reliance Jio’s Rs 98 prepaid plan was the company’s most affordable and cheapest prepaid recharge, available for 28 days.

It was introduced by the telco to offer special SMS benefits and high-speed data on a budget.

Reliance Jio offered:

  • 2GB of high-speed data,
  • 300 free SMS, and
  • free Jio-to-Jio calls

for a validity period of 28 days. Along with these features, the users also received landline calling benefits. The only parameter missing in this service was the Jio-non Jio FUP minutes.

Which is Jio’s new Cheapest Recharge Plan Now?

After scrapping off the Rs 98 prepaid recharge plan, the one that has now replaced the latter is the prepaid plan of Rs 129, offering a validity of 28 days.

This has now the existing cheapest prepaid plan available for Jio customers.

This plan offers:

  •  2GB of 4G data
  • free Jio-to-Jio calls
  • Users also get 1,000 minutes of non-Jio calls
  • free complimentary subscription of Jio apps, and
  • 300 SMS

for a validity period of 28 days.

Prepaid Plan Offering 3GB Data for 28 Days?

We have already mentioned in details, the cheapest and the most affordable 4G data packs for the Jio customers, for 28 days.

Now speaking of the most expensive pack, for the Jio users because why not?

Reliance Jio’s Rs 349 prepaid plan is the costliest offering which offers exclusive benefits to customers with 28 days validity.

Under this offer, users get the benefit of:

  • 3GB high-speed data per day,
  • unlimited Jio-to-Jio calls,
  • complimentary subscriptions of Jio apps,
  • 100 SMS per day, and
  • 1,000 minutes of non-Jio calls

  • complimentary subscription of Jio apps like JioCinema and JioTV, and

H1B Visa Rules Relaxed: Full Itinerary Of Work Stint No Longer Required (How Will This Help?)

H1B Visa Rules Relaxed: Full Itinerary Of Work Stint No Longer Required (How Will This Help?)
H1B Visa Rules Relaxed: Full Itinerary Of Work Stint No Longer Required (How Will This Help?)

There is a lot of immigration news circulating around these days, especially in accordance to the coronavirus crisis.

President Trump and his administration have always looked forward to create obstacles for immigrants wanting to enter the U.S. Taking the Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity to tighten the entry of foreign nationals into the U.S., the administration has announced various reforms regarding the immigration process.

However, in recent news, there has been some relief provided to the Indian IT services firms, as H-1B visa applicants are now not required to submit a detailed itinerary of their entire work to the USCIS.

Relief to the H-1B Visa Applicants

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows the US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.

The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China. These IT companies send their employees on H-1B visas to the U.S.

Earlier, while deploying their employees in third party locations in the US on the H-1B visas, the work permits were either granted for less than the mandated three-year period or were denied altogether by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), for not submitting a detailed itinerary.

This decision came after USCIS reached on a settlement with the ITServe Alliance, an IT industry body based in the United States.

What is this Settlement About?

According to this settlement between the USCIS and ITServe Alliance, the former will have to revoke its ‘2018 Contract and Itinerary Memorandum’.

As per this memorandum, companies sending their employees to the U.S. under work visas, were required to provide the employee’s itinerary within a period of 90 days.

Additionally, the agency will reopen and adjudicate more than 60 H-1B petitions in the next 90 days. The USCIS will also pay the ITServe Alliance $187,000 towards legal costs.

Speaking of ITServe Alliance, it is the largest association of IT solutions and services organisations in the US, comprising of 1,200 member companies. It has filed over 130 cases challenging visa denials, just over the past 2 years.

This settlement wipes out the last 10 years of USCIS policy targeting many companies that hire H-1B employees and directly benefits them with the opportunity for stable employment, a predictable future, and the confidence to continue their interest in the United States.

IBM’s Indian CEO Fires Thousands Of Employees; Even Artificial Intelligence Teams Are Killed

IBM has started firing thousands of employees, to save costs and to maintain their profits. As per some reports, entire teams working in enterprise Cloud, Artificial Intelligence and even teams working for Watson, their supercomputer has been terminated.

Where are these terminations and layoffs in IBM happening?

Keep reading to find out more.

IBM Fires Thousands Of Employees

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, who recently took over as IBM CEO in April, has decided to fire thousands of employees.

Mainly, these layoffs are happening in the US, across major IBM hubs and campuses.

This is first time Arvind Krishna has taken the decision to fire employees.

The layoffs have been confirmed by company spokesman Ed Barbini as he said, “IBM’s work in a highly competitive marketplace requires flexibility to constantly add high-value skills to our workforce. While we always consider the current environment, IBM’s workforce decisions are in the interest of the long-term health of our business,”

IBM will extend their subsidized medical coverage to all employees who have been fired, till June 2021.

Severance packages have also been rolled out, but we dont have the details yet.

Where Are The Employees Being Fired?

As per available information, the majority of the layoffs happened across Pennsylvania, California, Missouri and New York states, where IBM have huge campuses, and thousands of employees from these locations have been asked to resign.

During this layoff, the designation, experience and skill-sets have not been considered, it seems. Employees who have been working with IBM for the last 20 years have been asked to leave.

A North Caroline based worker, whose entire team of 12 employees have been axed, said,  “This was far ranging — and historical employment ratings, age and seniority did not seem to matter,”

During the Q1 of 2020, IBM’s revenue was $17.57, compared to $18.18 billion in Q1 of 2019. In the last 32 quarters, IBM’s revenue have fallen gradually, except 4 quarters.

No news of any layoffs from India has been reported as of now.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in,
