International Flights Are Still Banned: Govt Not Allowing International Flights, Critical Meeting Is Over

International Flights Are Still Banned: Govt Not Allowing International Flights, Critical Meeting Is Over
International Flights Are Still Banned: Govt Not Allowing International Flights, Critical Meeting Is Over

As countries all around the world like the UK, the US and Canada have started their Covid-19 vaccination programmes, India’s aviation ministry called a meeting with airlines on Tuesday to discuss resuming international flights.

However, no decision has been taken yet.

During the meeting, airlines rooted and pitched for looking beyond the air bubbles, which is being used to connect international destinations.

This meeting was of great significance as the vaccine has emerged as a ray of hope to the stalled economic activities, and the vaccine programs have brightened the prospects of opening up global aviation as well as the normality restored in the coming months.

“The issue of resumption of international flights and expansion of existing air bubble flights will be discussed with all airlines,” said a source aware of the matter who did not want to be identified.

On Resuming The International Travel

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is exploring the option of resuming international flights and is likely to discuss the subject with airlines at a meeting on December 15.

In the wake of Covid 19 virus, international travel was suspended since March, Only flights through Vande Bharat Mission and air bubble arrangements with countries are permitted.

The airlines now will be allowed to operate at 80 percent capacity, as opposed to 33 percent capacity which was when the domestic flights were resumed on May 25.

Different Approach On International As Compared To Domestic

Since the major hubs in SouthEast Asia and West Asia are expected to be opened up sooner than the US or European destinations, airlines advocated that the ministry should look at opening up the connectivity to these hubs.

However, the same approach might not be taken by the centre when it comes to the international flights as this time it would depend on other countries and their willingness to resume allowing flights from India and pointed out several specific country’s norms.

“There are several countries that would like resumption of regular flight connectivity with India and some may not. So, resumption of international flights would depend on that,” a source told the publication.

Civil aviation regulator DGCA had recently extended the international flight ban till 31 December because of the pandemic.

The restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA).

Anyone who wants to travel to foreign countries will have to depend on the air bubble arrangements. Under this arrangement, special international flights can be operated by the airlines of the respective countries between their territories.

Google, Apple Ban Technology That Sold Users’ Location Data; Apps Will be Removed After This Deadline

Google, Apple Ban Technology That Sold Users’ Location Data

Google, Apple Ban Technology That Sold Users’ Location Data

Technology giants Google and Apple have both decided to ban the technology that collected and sold users’ data. This technology is known is X-Mode Social Inc. and has now been banned.

This is the first time that a location broker has been targeted in a direct manner.

Read on to find out all the details!

Google, Apple Notify Developers To Remove Technology That Sells User Location Data

Google and Apple have both notified developers that they will have to remove the tracking software by X-Mode from any app in their app stores.

An investigation was being conducted to verify the sale of location data to government entities by investigators working for Sen. Ron Wyden (D., Ore.). If developers fail to remove the X-Mode’s tracking software from the app in their stores, they will have to lose access to any phones that run with Apple or Google’s operating systems.

A statement has also been issued, where it was confirmed by Google that developers have been given a deadline of seven days or face the ban. However, developers can also ask for an extension of up to 30 days.

A representative of Apple has said that a notice of two weeks has been given to developers to remove X-Mode’s trackers.

How Does X-Mode Work?

X-Mode has been in the news several times for its defense work. The company has provided data for national security, counterterrorism and pandemic response to several U.S. government contractors.

X-Mode’s primary work is in the commercial sector, investors and corporate clients use the data by the company for planning and decision making. X-Mode gathers all the information through SDK, which is a tiny bit of computer code called a software development kit. This SDK is paid in order to embed this data into other developer’s apps in exchange for the data collected.

X-Mode is not the only one; there are multiple others who obtain, buy, and resell detailed information about locations and movements of mobile devices. The other brokers buy the data directly from app developers. This data is then used for targeted advertising, observing behavior of customers, and planning real-estate and investment decisions.

Salary Hike For 30 Lakh Central Govt Employees From This Date, Under 7th Pay Commission?

Salary Hike For 30 Lakh Central Govt Employees From This Date, Under 7th Pay Commission?
Salary Hike For 30 Lakh Central Govt Employees From This Date, Under 7th Pay Commission?

In order to survive, companies have resorted to slashing salaries and laying off staff. Others have put employees on indefinite leave without pay or put freshly hired staff on hold. According to a survey, every two in 5 employees are facing the salary cuts.

The huge slowdown had even forced the government to slash the Dearness Allowance (DA) at the previous rate. The Dearness Allowance paid to the central government employees and pensioners was slashed to 17 % as against the earlier 21%, due to the pandemic and effect of the crisis on the state exchequer.

However this is temporary and the arrangement is believed to be implemented till June 2021. Post that, the government might give relief on DA and the employees will start getting more salary, while the pensioners will get more pension.

In April, a decision was taken by the Centre not to hike it this year in wake of the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the Dearness Allowance of central employees is increased in the month of July every year.

What is Dearness Allowance?

The Dearness Allowance (DA) is a calculation on inflation and allowance paid to government employees, public sector employees (PSE) and pensioners in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Dearness Allowance is calculated as a percentage of an Indian citizen’s basic salary to mitigate the impact of inflation on people. It is increased twice a year so that the level of standard of living of employees remains unaffected to the inflation.

However, post the slashing of DA, Diwali bonuses have been paid on the occasion of Dussehra to more than 30 lakh employees. Also, relief has been given on LTA and LTC. The LTC Cash Voucher Scheme was announced on October 12 by the Central Government.

Till now, the central employees were given LTC benefits only on travelling. Under this, employees can purchase services and goods that attract 12 per cent or more GST.

Good news for Delhi & West Bengal government employees:-

Apart from this, the Delhi government and the West Bengal government also announced a DA hike for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and other category workers.

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia who is also in charge of the labour department, announced a much-needed increase in monthly DA. He said that the AAP government will make sure that the workers get their salaries on time even during the coronavirus pandemic.

The revised minimum wages, including the DA, will be applicable from October 1 in all scheduled employment.

Govt Can Resume International Flights As Vaccination Has Started In These Countries

Govt Can Resume International Flights
Govt Can Resume International Flights
Govt Can Resume International Flights

As per new reports coming in, the Centre has plans to restart international flights during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apparently, the reason behind this international flights will be restarted is the availability of vaccinations on the Coronavirus disease.

Will international flights operate like domestic ones? Read on to find out all the details!

International Flights To Resume Operations? MoCA Considering Options

The DGCA had suspended the operations of the international flights till the end of this year when the lockdown was imposed throughout the country due to the COVID-19 virus.

However, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is exploring options of resuming the operations even during the COVID-19 pandemic. These flights will be restarted only after the vaccination programmes begin in the US, UK, and Canada.

As per reports, the international flights will possibly begin their operations soon after the new year begins.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has plans to hold talks with airlines in this month. A government official close to the sources has revealed that the issue of resumption of international flights and expansion of existing air bubble flights will be held in the discussion of the airlines.

We all know that international flights were being operated under the Vande Bharat Mission and air bubble arrangements. These flights were operated to rescue any Indian nationals that were stuck overseas. India has already established an air bubble agreement with more than 23 countries up until now.

Will International Flights Operate At 80 Per Cent Capacity Like Domestic Flights?

Domestic flights had already begun operating on May 25 at 33 per cent capacity and these airlines are now allowed to fly at 80 per cent capacity as well.

However, there is a possibility that a similar approach will not be maintained for restarting international flights as the whole deal depends upon the countries who consent to resume allowing flights from India.

Additionally, some of the major airlines operating in India are of the opinion that the Centre should consider opening up the connectivity to some of the major hubs in South East Asia and West Asia.

BSNL Has No Money To Pay Salaries; Employee Union Slam Management For Stopping Salaries

The group has demanded timely payment of salary from the management and to not hide under the shelter of economic hardships due to Covid.

BSNL which recently features in our stories for the new BSNL 199 plan, finds its mention once again. However, this time the sun isn’t shining. And its not the first time they are featured for the ability to pay its employees.

The state run telco has been repeatedly failing to disburse salaries to the employees on time, alleged the BSNL Employee Union (BSNLEU). The union also brought into the light the apathy of management towards its employees.

The union revealed that BSNL is yet to disburse the salary of the employees for the month of November 2020.

The group said in an official statement said that “The union is most pained to note that, the management has abdicated its responsibility of disbursing salary to the employees as per the existing terms and the conditions, i.e., on the last working day of every month. Further, it is also forcing the employees to come to the streets and to demonstrate every month, for getting their salary”.

No Respite Yet

The group also told there has been no respite, even after been writing to BSNL CMD regarding the concerns of employees. BSNLEU added that “In all the letters, BSNLEU has demanded that salary should be disbursed on the last working day of the month. It is disturbing to note that the management has not at all cared about all these letters and the pleadings of the Union have fallen in deaf ears”.

The union reasoned  citing that all other commercial activities have mostly resumed across the country and the management “cannot take shelter” by citing economic hardships arising due to the Covid pandemic and in the view of new year has demanded timely payment of salary for the month of November and December.

The Unified License:-

Recently unified license (UL) has been extended to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the next 20 years by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and has also allowed offering services in Delhi and Mumbai metropolitan areas after the latter submitted a bank guarantee (BG) worth Rs 250-crore, ET reported in its December 12 edition. This will allow the ailing telco to provide seamless 2G, 3G, and 4G services across all telecom circles in the 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2500 spectrum bands.

Last year in October, the Cabinet approved a mega voluntarily retirement scheme (VRS) as a part of the revival package of the two financially-stressed telecom carriers. The VRS Scheme was opted for by as many as 78,569 employees of BSNL and by 14,387 employees of MTNL and enabled the telcos to cut salary expenses by almost 50%.

BSNL, on an annual basis, reduced wage bill from nearly Rs 1,400 crore to Rs 7,000 crore and MTNL from Rs 2,250 crore to Rs 500 crore.

WhatsApp, The instant messaging application owned by Facebook with over 150 crore users worldwide, has on Wednesday announced that it is now live with its payments offering in India for its 2 crore users with four banks—State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank, the Facebook-owned company said in a press note on December 16. This comes after two years of waiting. WhatsApp payment service received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in November to go live on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) with over 160 supported banks.

UPI Is A Transformative Service:-

Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp, India, said during the Facebook ‘Fuel for India’ virtual event, “UPI is a transformative service and we jointly have the opportunity to bring the benefits of our digital economy and financial inclusion to a large number of users who have not had full access to them before”. WhatsApp can expand its UPI user base in a graded manner starting with a maximum registered user base of 20 million.

The peer-to-peer (P2P) payment feature is available now in 10 Indian regional language versions of WhatsApp.

Bijith Bhaskar, Head – Digital Channels & Partnership, ICICI Bank said that “We introduced banking services on WhatsApp in April. Over two million users have adopted banking services on WhatsApp in this short span. Now with WhatsApp Payments, there is a unique opportunity to scale essential financial services to people all over the country with ease”.

Digital payments in India are expected to reach $94 trillion by the financial year 2025, according to RedSeer report, a Bengaluru-based research firm.

“We’re excited and privileged to partner with State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and AXIS Bank to bring simple and secure digital payments to WhatsApp users across India,” Bose said in a statement.

SBI now offers UPI services through the WhatsApp Payments, bringing the convenience of easy and instant mobile based payments.

Important Step Towards Financial Inclusion And Economic Growth:-

Partnering with WhatsApp is another important step toward achieving financial inclusion and making affordable financial services available to Indians, according to Parag Rao, Country Head-Payments Business, Consumer Finance, Digital Banking & Marketing, HDFC Bank. He added that “Such partnerships will further fuel the economic growth and development of the nation”.

WhatsApp Pay is designed with a strong set of security and privacy principles, including entering a personal UPI PIN for each payment.

It competes with Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe as major players and many more.

The entry into the payments arena seems to be WhatsApp’s quest to be the “Superapp”.

WhatsApp shall be starting out with payments and then foray into larger financial services like digital lending and insurance.

Here is a step by step process to use Whatsapp Pay and make the payments.

To check if you have received Whatsapp Pay featire or not, click the menu on the home screen (top right, three vertical dots).
You will find Payment option.
If you have it, next step is to add your bank, verify and confirm it.
After adding the bank, you can open any chat window, click on the Clip icon, and enter the amount, UPI pin, and transfer the money.

Mumbai Local Trains Can Start From January 1 For All; But Only If This Happens

Mumbai local train services are likely to start from the first week of January 2021 as informed by Congress leader and Maharashtra minister Vijay Waddetiwar On Tuesday.

Decision Will Be Taken Soon

According to Waddetiwar, the government is thinking about the same and seems to be making appropriate arrangements for the same.

So far, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was mulling over resuming local train services reportedly , but the decision will be taken after December 15.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister said, “We have been writing to the Railway ministry to open the suburban network to all commuters and it may be done from early January next year,”.

BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal  said, “If the Covid-19 spike gets averted, then we are planning to take a decision on resuming local trains for the general public after December 15,”.

Chahal said, “The government is not in favour of imposing a night curfew because it creates panic among people. Hence it has decided to wait and watch till December 25,”.

Mumbai Local Essential Services

Prior to this, the Mumbai local was reopened to people in essential services on June 15 after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

To maintain social distancing norms, the trains were carrying only 700 essential service providers Instead of the usual 1,200 passengers.

The workers who were considered to be essential service providers were only  allowed to travel in local trains with the help of identity cards.

After some time, BMC has come up with electronic passes which they have  issued with a quick response (QR) code in an attempt to ensure less crowding in the trains.

Begin Again Mission

After that came the ‘Begin Again’ Mission, under this the Maharashtra government in October-end had permitted all women to travel by the locals.

Before this, only women working in essential services and government offices were allowed to travel.

Afterword during November, the railways had reiterated and mentioned that ladies are barred from carrying their children in Mumbai local trains.

As it was found that a large number of female passengers were seen travelling with their children in the local trains.

The rule is still applicable in both Central Railway and Western Railway routes.

Questions Raised In Legislative Assembly Over Firing Of IT Employees During Coronavirus; Will IT Firms Respond?

Questions Raised In Legislative Assembly Over Firing Of IT Employees During Coronavirus; Will IT Firms Respond?

For the first time ever, an elected leader in a state Legislative Assembly has raised questions over the firing of IT employees during coronavirus.

Although IT employees are among the top tax payers in India, contributing towards making India self-reliant and a global super-power, no political leader has ever raised the concerns faced by IT employees, in Parliament or Legislative Assemplies.

But things are now changing, and questions are being raised.

Will the IT employers respond now?

Will the State Govt take action to safeguard the interests of IT employees?

MLC Raises Question In Legislative Assembly Over Firing Of IT Employees

Few days back, we had reported that NITES (Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate) President Harpreet Singh Saluja had a meeting with Hon’ble Member of Legislative Council Maharashtra Shri Gopichand ji Padalkar over the plight of IT employees in Maharashtra.

Based on this meeting and the inputs received, Shri Gopichand ji Padalkar raised the issue of the firing of IT employees, during a session at Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

He asked why IT firms like Wipro, Cognizant, and others have fired thousands of IT employees during the lockdown, and why no action has been taken against them?

He shared some vital data related to the firing of IT employees and cutting salaries of the IT employees, which is unethical, and illegal since the nation was gripped with a pandemic.

By raising these critical questions, Govt has been made aware of the adverse situation in which IT employees have found themselves in.

Will Govt take action now?

Role Of NITES In Helping Employees

This is for the 1st time that any elected leader has raised the questions about IT employees, in a Legislative Assembly, and this happened due to the relentless pursuit of NITES (Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate), which is a non-profit dedicated to helping IT employees.

In past, NITES has raised the issues related with IT employees and filed several complaints and petition with Labor Commissioner, and other Govt officials.

We hope that Govt takes note of the issues which are faced by IT employees, and take action against those who are breaking the rules.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
