If the employees do not comply by June 1, the employer’s payment to the PF account may also be stopped as well.

What If You Don’t Link your PF account with Aadhaar?

The regulatory body has also clearly instructed the employers that from June 1, if a PF account is not linked to Aadhaar or UAN is not Aadhaar verified, then its ECR-Electronic Challan cum Return will not be filled.

Maruti Suzuki recorded 32,903 units in May 2021 as against 13,702 units with a 140 per cent YoY sales increase.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. posted total sales of 46,555 units in May, the country’s largest automaker said in a statement.

“In May 2021, the company shut production from May 1 through May 16 to divert oxygen from industrial use for medical purposes. In May 2020, the company witnessed production disruption owing to lockdowns,” Maruti Suzuki India said in an official statement.

“Since neither of the two months had normal production, the sales volume of May 2021 are not comparable with May 2020,” it added.

The Auto Industry Had Recorded Unusually Low Sales

The Indian automotive industry, as well as the economy as a whole, has been going through another rough patch in the last three months, with restrictions imposed across the country causing a temporary halt in retail sales and production, as well as logistical challenges, but recovery is expected in the second half of this calendar year.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), recorded a cumulative domestic tally of 32,903 units in May 2021 as against 13,702 units during the same period last year with a Year-on-Year volume increase of 140 per cent. However, the MoM data led to a massive decline of 76 per cent.

In April 2021, Maruti Suzuki registered 1,35,879 units and when compared to last month, a huge drop in volumes of 1,02,976 units was seen.

The Indo-Japanese manufacturer held on to a market share of 31.9 per cent in May 2021 as against 37.5 per cent during the corresponding month last year as well with a decline of 5.6 per cent.

Year-on-Year Sales Growth In May 2021

While all of the automakers recorded appreciable.

Year-on-Year sales growth in May 2021 except for Toyota, the MoM negative sales gave a clear indication of where the industry stands this year as recovery can only be expected when the social and economic activities get back to normal or at least begin to get to that state.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the second-generation CGlerio in the coming months.

UPI Losing Its Shine? Transaction Volume Reduce By 4% In May: What’s The Reason?

The digital payments market may have recorded 2.53 billion transactions worth Rs 4,90,638 crore
The digital payments market may have recorded 2.53 billion transactions worth Rs 4,90,638 crore
The digital payments market may have recorded 2.53 billion transactions worth Rs 4,90,638 crore

UPI transactions increased by double digits during the lockdown months as the virus spread and customers began to prefer digital payments. And thus march saw a significant increase in UPI volumes, with total transactions exceeding $5 trillion, up 18% from February.

But in May, the digital payments market recorded 2.53 billion transactions worth Rs 4,90,638 crore, according to NPCI data in a tweet shows.

Drop-In Volume And The Value Of UPI Transactions

The recent slowdown in growth may be attributed to rising transaction failures because of frequent technical glitches at banks, which also dethroned Google Pay and the UPI market leader.

In May, the digital payments market recorded 2.53 billion transactions worth Rs 4,90,638 crore

When compared to April, the UPI recorded 2.64 billion transactions worth Rs 4,93,663 crore, there is a 4.16 per cent decline in volume and a 0.61 per cent decline in value.

Whereas it had set a new record in March, with 2.73 billion transactions worth Rs 5,04,886 crore

While the market share of UPI apps for May has not been revealed by NPCI, PhonePe dominated the market in April with a 45 per cent share.

UPI Transactions During The lockdown Months

UPI market leader PhonePe also crossed a milestone during March. “We crossed a billion UPI transactions in March. Last month, the total transactions on our platforms across the payment instruments of wallet, card, and UPI that we offer stood at 1.3 billion,” a PhonePe spokesperson said.

Google recorded a decline in its market share to 34.3%.

Paytm had a market share of 12.14% in April.

NPCI Expanding Its Service To International Markets

The NPCI has already issued a new guideline that limits the market share of all third-party UPI apps to 30%.

The regulating body will, however, give exemptions to the top applications to comply with the new regulations.

NPCI is also expanding its service to international markets.

It partnered with Financial Software and Systems in April and incorporated a new entity called NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to study potential use cases outside of India.

PM Modi Cancels CBSE Class 12 Exam Across India; ICSE Class 12 Exam Also Cancelled

CSBE board exams for Class 12 students cancelled; ISC also follows suit.
CSBE board exams for Class 12 students cancelled; ISC also follows suit.
CSBE board exams for Class 12 students cancelled; ISC also follows suit.

The Narendra Modi led government has finally voiced its decision to cancel the Class 12 CBSE board exams, amid the worsening situation of the second-wave of Covid-19 pandemic across the country.

This sets in the ‘much needed’ relief to about 14 lakh CBSE candidates registered for Class 12 board exams, along with their parents and teachers.

The announcement to cancel the board exams came late in the evening yesterday, as PM Modi broke the news through his Twitter account, insisting that the health and safety of students is of utmost importance and there would not be any step taken to compromise with this.

The news has also reportedly put an end to the anxiety faced by students, parents and teachers, with a lingering fate of the exams.

Additionally, the private board conducting ISC exams for Class 12, The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has also been reported to follow this suit.

CBSE Board Exams for Class 12 Cancelled

PM Narendra Modi, at 7:39 pm on Tuesday tweeted, “Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as the future of our youth.”

In a press release, he was quoted stating that the decision to cancel the exams has been taken in the best interest of students.

He added that students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation and asked all stakeholders to show sensitivity towards them.

This comes after the Centre cancelled the CBSE Class 10 exams last month in April.

Govt Grants Students the Option to Give Board Exams

The board sources have stated that the Government is currently working out a set of options to come up with an alternative assessment criteria, which is expected to come out soon.

Under the options being considered for alternate assessment criteria, the authorities are working out on whether the students should be assessed on the basis of their performances in Class 9, 10 and 11 final exams, or give a certain weightage to Class 10 board results and internal assessments of Class 12. The modalities will be announced in a couple of days, states a senior CBSE official.

It has also been announced that those students who are willing to give the Class 12 board exams (CBSE), will be provided with an option to do so, whenever the possibility to hold an examination arises.

PM’s Decision Widely Appreciated by Student Unions and Opp Parties

The government’s decision on cancelling the board exams for Class 12 CBSE students met wide appreciation from not just the student bodies and parents/teachers but also from opposition parties.

Ashok Pandey, director, Ahlcon Group of Schools stated that amid the trauma undergone by children due to the threat of the virus and no vaccination for them, made it difficult for students to bring in confidence for their exams.

“This is a well-considered decision by the government and I am happy that the PM has asked for a time-bound transparent and equitable assessment plan to be implemented”, added Pandey.

Congress MLA from Delhi Mukesh Sharma, stated that the government’s decision is a victory for students. “I am happy that the uncertainty has ended.”

Student bodies like Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, Students Islamic Organisation of India and NSUI also welcomed and greeted the government’s decision.

The long anxious wait of students has come to an end with this decision of the government.

In another step towards providing affordable and pleasant service to its travelers, the Indian Railways has rolled out fifteen new train coaches for AC 3-tier Economy Class, which showcase features like none before.

These economy coaches are equipped with improved and modular design of berths and seats, along with other facilities.

The AC coaches will be attached to various mail and express trains.

Features of The New Train Coaches

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, Punjab has recently rolled out 15 new train coaches of the AC 3-tier Economy Class.

This Economy class is expected to provide an air-conditioned, convenient, affordable, and pleasant travel experience to passengers, says Indian Railways.

Kepping this in mind, the newly built train cocahes have been designed to provide the finest quality of services at economical prices for its travelers.

The AC ducting of these coaches have been redesigned to provide individual vents for each berth.

It also comes equipped with ‘injury-free spaces and holders for water bottles, magazines and mobile phones, an improved and modular design of berths and seats, and also snack tables that are foldable in both transverse and longitudinal bays’, mentions The Financial Express.

Each berth is equipped with amenities like individual reading lights and charging points for elcetronic devices.

These new coaches have extra berths, increased from the standard number of 72 berths to 83.

To make it more comfortable for specially-abled passengers, these berths have wider doors in the coaches.

More Details

The RCF released the prototype for these specialized coaches on February 10, 202, which has been completed and launched only in 3 months after its inception.

The GM of RCF Kapurthala, Ravinder Gupta says that the AC Economy Class Coach offers the cheapest and finest air-conditioned travel in the world and is a landmark in the glorious journey of RCF.

This new class of passenger trains will make the whole experience of train journeys more convenient, safer and faster.

He also added that due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, only 50% of the RCF staff was assigned for the production work, besides a great blow to the supply of railway material to RCF.

Despite this, the RCF produced more than 100 coaches in May 2021, he added.

RCF plans to produce 248 coaches in the current and upcoming financial years.

They will also require landing rights in order to downlink signals of foreign satellites into the country, which will be granted by the Department of Space (DoS) .

As per these sources, “Talks with the DoS and Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will happen on the necessary regulatory approvals to bring Amazon’s high-speed broadband services to India via its Project Kuiper satellite constellation as part of the global launch.”

Some of the major competitors of Amazon will be One Web, by Bharti Airtel, SpaceX by Elon Musk, and Jio’s internet services.

Punjab Mail, the country’s oldest running passenger train has completed 109 years and enters its 110th running year today, June 1, 2021.

The train journeys between Mumbai and Firozpur Cantonment and takes 34 hours and 15 minutes to cover this 1,930 km long journey.

A History of India’s Oldest Train

While the origin of the initial Bombay to Peshawar Punjab Mail is rather blurry, it is inferred that the train made her maiden run out of Ballard Pier Mole station on 1 June 1912.

This information comes from a Cost Estimate paper circa 1911 and a complaint by an irate passenger circa October 12, 1912 about the ‘late arrival of the train by a few minutes at Delhi’, states Livemint.

As the British officials held combined tickets both for their voyage to Bombay, as well as their inland journey by train to their place of posting, they would, after disembarking, simply board one of the trains bound for either Madras, Calcutta or Delhi.

The Punjab Limited was the fastest train in  British India during the pre-partition period. It crossed Itarsi, Agra, Delhi and Lahore, before terminating its journey at Peshawar Cantonment.

Its route started and terminated on one end at the Bombay VT from 1914, which is now known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai. It was after this, the name was loosely set to Punjab Mail, from Punjab Limited, and it became a daily service.

Originally serving only the upper-class white sahibs, the Punjab Mail soon started serving the lower classes too. By the mid-1930s, the train was equipped with third class cars too.

In 1914, the GIP route from Bombay to Delhi turned out to be around 1,541 km, which was covered in 29 hr 30 min by the Punjab Mail. This transit time further reduced to 27 hr 10 min with the start of 1920s, even though the number of intermediate train stoppages went up to 18.

However in 1972, the transit time climbed up to 29 hours.

It was met with an air-conditioned car in 1945, while starting May 1, 1976, the Punjab Mail shifted to diesel locomotives and was completely dieselized.

In 1968, the train ran on diesel upto Jhansi. Its loading capacity also increased from 12 to 15 cars. Dieselization was later expanded from Jhansi to New Delhi, followed by uptil Firozpur, in 1976.

The number of coaches was increased to 18, with two coaches getting added on at Jhansi. In the late 1970/early 1980s, WCAM/1 dual current locomotive to run the Punjab Mail on electric traction right upto Bhusaval, with the changeover from DC to AC traction at Igatpuri.

Since 2011, the Punjab Mail journeys through about 55 intermediate stoppages.

Bollywood Star Juhi Chawla Wants 5G To Be Banned In India; Files Petition

5G graphic banner at an event
Chawla has come to conclusions about the dangers of 5G after her own research.

Juhi Chawla, actor-cum-environmentalist, has filed a suit in the Delhi High Court in opposition to bringing in 5G technology in India.

Environmental Concerns

She has expressed concerns about the impact of Radiofrequency (RF) radiation on health and safety of the people and its environmental impact.

She believes that if 5G is implemented in India, constant exposure to “levels of RF radiation that are 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today” will be unavoidable and harmful for any living being.

Her petition says that 5G technology will apparently cause irreversible damage on humankind and the environment at large.

She has arrived at this conclusion after (her) “own research and studies regarding the RF radiation from wire-free gadgets and network cell towers”.

Demands Fresh Study Without Private Involvement

The petition also called out the Ministry of Telecommunications which had said in response to an RTI query back in 2019 that no studies have been undertaken with regards to RF radiation.

It also expressed concerns that there are vested interests by private players in the launch of 5G in India.

She has called for the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to conduct research on the matter, without private participation.

She has further asked for certification by the government and the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) that 5G technology poses no risk or hazard.

What WHO Has To Say

WHO (World Health Organization) said in a 2020 report that it found no evidence of a link between exposure to wireless technologies and negative health effects.

The only tangible physical effect on humans it has found was a “negligible temperature rise in the human body from Radiofrequency exposure”.

You can read the WHO report for yourself here.

Indian Govt On Dangers Of 5G

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said last month, in response to rumors and panic that 5G could be behind the crushing 2nd Coronavirus wave, that non-ionizing Radio frequencies emitted by mobile towers have very little power and as such cannot harm living cells in the human body.

It also assured the public of its stringent standards of safety which are 10x stricter compared to the WHO and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

Private telecom operators do not have free reign either, as the DoT also has a well-structured process in place which all operators have to adhere to.

Citizens’ Portal To File Request

Anyone can request EMF measurements/testing on Tarang Sanchar portal at https://tarangsanchar.gov.in/emfportal

The measurements could help shed light on the limits of radio wave emissions by towers.

The portal is an initiative by the DoT to increase public awareness about the health effects of EMF emission from mobile towers.

Further Reassurances And Need For Telecom

The Director General of Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) said, also in response to 5G-covid link rumors, that several countries already have 5G and their people are accessing the technology safely.

He also stressed on the importance of telecom for India especially in the present times.

The various needs of the hour, such as work from home, online classes, e-health and online doctor consultations and the provision of critical, factual and real-time information, would not be met if it weren’t for telecom.

The suit has been transferred to another bench which will hear the matter on June 2.

Maggi Maker Nestle Claims 70% Of Their Products Not Healthy! What’s The Truth?

Maggi Maker Nestle Claims 70% Of Their Products Not Healthy! What's The Truth?
Maggi Maker Nestle Claims 70% Of Their Products Not Healthy! What's The Truth?
Maggi Maker Nestle Claims 70% Of Their Products Not Healthy! What’s The Truth?

This has come as a surprise as the Swiss food conglomerate, Nestlé’s in an internal document admitted that more than 70% of its food and drinks portfolio do not meet the “recognized definition of health”

How Does It Affect?

Nestle is the brand whose Maggi noodles, KitKats and Nescafe, many others are daily food staples for Indian households.

Also Read – Your Maggi Is Toxic, Nestle Admits In Court; Supreme Court Allows Case Against Maggi

Not only that, but the world’s biggest food company has also admitted that some of its food products will ‘never be healthy’ no matter “how much we renovate”.

A presentation circulated among top executives in early 2021 said that only 37% of Nestle’s products, excluding pet food and specialized medical nutrition, achieved a rating of 3.5 or higher under Australia’s health star rating system, according to UK business daily Financial Times.

Also Read – Coca Cola Will Reduce Sugar By 6-Times; HUL, Nestle Products Most Nutritious In India!

According to this company, a 3.5-star rating is considered as the “recognized definition of health”.

In simple words, this system rates foods on a scale of 5 stars and is used by international groups as the benchmark.

70% Of Products Are Not Upto Standards

Surprisingly, 70% of products out of the company’s overall food and drinks portfolio, failed to make the cut, along with 90% of beverages excluding pure coffee, as per the presentation.

Contrary to that, the water and dairy products fared well with 82% of waters and 60% of dairy above the threshold.

Also Read – Noodles War: Snac Tac By Reliance Is Beating Maggi’s Popularity In Indian Retail Market!

Further, the presentation quoted, “We have made significant improvements to our products . . .[but] our portfolio still underperforms against external definitions of health in a landscape where regulatory pressure and consumer demands are skyrocketing,”.

Some Exceptions

It is noteworthy here that this data does not consider baby formula, pet food, coffee, and the health science division which the company makes for people with specific medical conditions.

But it also concludes that the data presented in the presentation consider the products, half of Nestle’s Eu 84.35 billion total revenues.

After this damaging revelation, the Swiss company said in its defense that it was working on a “company-wide project” to update its nutrition and health strategy, in a statement.

Further adding that it was looking at its entire portfolio to make sure its products helped meet people’s nutritional needs.

It seems like an irony from an Indian’s point of view since Nestle is recognized as a well-known and trusted brand in India.

But now, how much it can be trusted with the revelation of this report.

From time to time, this kind of revelation also raises questions on food standards and their implementation in the country.

Since it’s not the first time something like this comes into the picture.

Indian Railways Electrify 6000 Route KMs In 365 Days; Sets New Record In Electrification

Indian Railways locomotive on tracks

The Railways is aiming towards 100% electrification of its network by December 2023.

The Indian Railways, a significant driver of the economy, has set a record of electrifying 6,015 Route Kilometers (RKM) in a single year, 2020-21.

The previous record was 5,276 RKM achieved in the year 2018-19.

Record Broken Despite Pandemic

Achieving the new record was helped in some ways by the Covid pandemic due to which normal running of trains was halted, giving the govt time and space to continue the ambitious project.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that for the first time end-to-end connectivity on routes via electrification was achieved in the North-Eastern part of India.

The Future Is Electric

Recent years have seen renewed effort towards railway electrification which would help India reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and achieve energy security.

All of this would enable the railways, a mainstay in Indian transportation, to become faster, more eco-friendly and energy efficient.

The Railways is aiming towards 100% electrification of its network by December 2023.

When this is achieved, Indian Railways will finally meet its goals of  “net zero” emissions by 2030 which means that the entire electrical load will be sourced from renewable energy.

Popular Electrified Routes

Some of the most significant electrified routes are as follows-

  • Mumbai-Howrah via Jabalpur
  • Delhi-Darbhanga-Jaynagar
  • Gorakhpur-Varanasi via Aunrihar
  • Jabalpur-Nainpur-Gondia- Ballarshah
  • Chennai-Trichy
  • Indore-Guna-Gwalior-Amritsar
  • Delhi-Jaipur-Udaipur
  • New Delhi-New Coochbehar-Srirampur Assam via Patna & Katihar
  • Ajmer-Howrah
  • Mumbai-Marwar
  • Delhi-Moradabad-Tanakpur

Govt Could Potentially Save Crores

As the electrification drive chugs along, the Railways could gain economic benefits by saving on fuel bills due to reduced import of fossil fuels.

For example, the Ministry of Railways says that the cost per kilometre for diesel traction is 5.1 paise.

For 1km with electric traction, the cost comes down to 1.5 paise

It has been estimated that once electrification is complete, the total savings could amount to Rs 13,510 crore per annum.

Maintenance costs are also reduced since it costs more to maintain diesel locomotives compared to half the cost for electric locomotives.

Railways Exploring Solar Energy

The Railways is also exploring the use of solar energy for traction power requirements and to make the railways completely green.

More than 960 stations already have solar panels installed which helps it meet its energy needs.

The Railways is also looking to invite private players in the solar power drive by promising a Letter of Credit (LC) in case of payment default by railways among other provisions.

Indian Railways Saves Rs 8000 Crore Due To Electrification Drive; Electrifies 6000+ Kms In 12 Months

Court Orders Apple To Give Free iPhone 12 Charging Adapter As They Lose Lawsuit!

Court Orders Apple To Give Free iPhone 12 Charging Adapter As They Lose Lawsuit!
Court Orders Apple To Give Free iPhone 12 Charging Adapter As They Lose Lawsuit!

Wide range of users across the globe are disappointed due to the removal of the charger adapter from the Apple iPhone 12’s retail box.

There is a good news for those of you who resonate with this thought. In March this year, the organization was fined by the authorities of Brazil for ditching the charger adapter in the flagship iPhone 12’s retail box.

Fine of USD 2 million & More

As a result of this, a fine of USD 2 million as a penalty was levied on the Cupertino-based tech giant. The company, post losing the lawsuit to Mariana Morales Oliveira, from Santos (Sao Paulo), Brazil delivered a free charger adapter to the iPhone 12 user.

Read more to know about the lawsuit as well as the judgement.

Apple to Include Charger Adapter in Brazil

Mariana gained a win in the final verdict of the case was concluded on May 23rd, 2021. Apple removed the charger from the retail box forcing users to buy the charger which in turn comes in a retail box and this doesn’t gel well with Apple’s environmentally friendly agenda.

“The Issue Of Protection Earth Claims, Which Is Required To Be Implemented, Disclosed Of Pressure And Requires A Policy That Is Concerned About Independence. What We Have Said With The Judges We Have Acknowledged, Because This Environmental Protection That Aple Says Is Special Protection. It Is A Related Protection Because The Product Does Not Stop Selling Access To The Access. It Has Not Stopped Making A Destruction. So Much Only That Doesn’t Come With The Devil. However, You Can Buy It Differently. It’s A Friend Of Blindness. The Only Charger That Comes With A Smartphone Dirty Environment? Did A Different Paper?”

The lawsuit was lost by Apple and the company has to now obey the orders and deliver a free charger to Mariana within 10 days. Apple might attract a fine of 200 Brazilian Real and it can go up to 5,000 in case it fails to deliver the charging adapter.

Emotions are cooler for those who didn’t appreciate the move of Apple dropping the power adapter from the retail box. Moving forward, Apple must have learned the lessons and now shall rethink the consequences before taking any wild step like the removal of the charger adapter.
